Associate Design Manager

Marketing and Communications

 

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university, is seeking an Associate Design Manager to join the award-winning Marketing and Communications Division, an in-house agency providing integrated marketing services including strategy development, print and digital programs, media and public relations, social media, event planning and market research. We're seeking a talented individual to contribute to our mission of communicating the St. Edward's story to increase engagement, attract resources and achieve the university's goals.

Reporting to the Senior Creative and Web Director in Marketing and Communications, the Associate Design Manager is responsible for executing strategic concepts, bringing campaigns to life with new ideas and meeting timely deliverables. Developing the university's design capability through leadership and inventive concepts, the aim is to set our campaigns apart from those of our competitors. The fullest understanding of graphic design, typography and digital standards is as essential as the experience to execute projects of all sizes, and complete them with resourcefulness and dedication.

 

For consideration, the individual must possess and/or display the following:

(Required)

  • Bachelor's degree in design or related field
  • Minimum of three years of related professional experience, showing work and competency in typography, color theory, composition, layout and fundamental design principles
  • High level of proficiency in design tools (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat), techniques (prototyping, art direction and working with briefs) and process (leading and collaborating in design best practice conversations, prepress/print production and design to development principles)
  • Must effectively work within and enhance an established brand
  • Ability to articulate aesthetic and visual design principles and how they meet marketing goals
  • Ability to perform creatively while managing multiple responsibilities, meeting deadlines and solving problems
  • Excellent organizational skills, follow-through and attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with clients, vendors and colleagues.
  • Ability to perform as the backup for the Senior Creative and Web Director, effectively and autonomously managing projects, communication, requests and priorities
  • Highly collaborative team player with a positive, can-do attitude who proactively seeks guidance and gives help to others
  • Understands and accepts feedback well, with the ability to efficiently iterate and expand upon design solutions

(Preferred)

  • Strong portfolio, a passion for creativity and innovation, and the ability to work as a team player to bring creative concepts to life
  • Experience with motion graphics, video editing and/or photography
  • Good familiarity with basic front-end development principles (HTML/CSS)
  • End-to-end UX design experience with strong UI design skills
  • Familiarity with a CMS (preferably Drupal) and good working knowledge of digital design tools, such as Figma and Miro

 

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Execute high-quality design projects that adhere to university brand standards
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively to execute projects from concept to completion, following established project management processes and meeting deadlines
  • Working closely with content strategists, developers and other team members, concept and create brand-aligned designs - including but not limited to digital and print materials, editorial layouts, illustrations, user interface designs, webpages, social media graphics and emails - that meet the strategic goals of the department and University
  • Concept and create high-quality deliverables for digital properties, demonstrating the ability to balance design aesthetics with usability and technical limitations, considering user feedback and data to inform wireframes, mock-ups and IA and UX refinements
  • In collaboration with the Senior Creative and Web Director, identify, source and manage freelance designers, providing creative direction and feedback throughout the design process
  • Maintain and evolve brand guidelines, and serve as the lead role of brand ambassador by providing assets, feedback, guidance and support to partners, vendors, student interns and others
  • Assist with photoshoots as needed
  • Mentor and manage student design workers as needed
  • Other duties as assigned, trained for and qualified to do
