Floor Care Technician
Responsible for the systematic maintenance of the university's hard- and soft-surfaced flooring. Provides setup and teardown support during university sponsored events.
Fulfill a floor care maintenance schedule that may require interaction with university departments to minimize disruption. Maintain floor systems through processes such as stripping, waxing, and extraction. Perform regular custodial duties during the absence of another custodian. Clean upholstered furniture and assist during special events set-up and teardowns. Perform related work as assigned.
Two years of experience in carpet and hard-floor care performing similar duties.
Ability to speak and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees and customers, based on the assumption that such individuals can only speak and understand English. Also ability to read English in a manner that is sufficient to understand information on Material Safety Data Sheets and instructions on products and methods used in the normal course and scope of the job.
Must be able to climb stairs, work from a ladder or scaffold platform, and lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Ability to comply with safety policies, workplace guidelines, and attendance requirements.
Must have a valid Texas driver's license, good driving record, and be insurable by university carrier.
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
Available schedule is 10:00pm – 6:30am, Monday – Friday. Scheduled hours may change for special events or to meet the needs of the facility. Duties may include weekend, holiday, overtime and on-call work.
Assigned custodial vehicles; floor machines such as burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors and automatic scrubbing machines: vacuum cleaners, brooms, mop and bucket, power washing equipment and small hand tools for repairs.
