Assistant Professor of Francophone Literature and Culture
Languages, Literatures and Cultures
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at St. Edward's University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Francophone Literatures and Cultures to begin Fall 2014. New hire will teach courses in her/his field of research; elementary and intermediate French; courses in English in St. Edward's General Education program. This faculty member will ordinarily teach 8 courses per year (4 each semester) and is expected to help build the French major through the development of courses and extra-curricular activities for students. Specialty in African or Caribbean Francophone Studies a plus. The successful candidate will contribute to and support diversity at St. Edward's University. S/he will also work with the Office of International Education to increase study abroad and exchange opportunities.
Teach 8 undergraduate courses per academic year (e.g., 4 in Fall; 4 in Spring) in: French and Francophone Culture; elementary and intermediate French; General Education courses
Actively engage in advising, program-building activities, departmental, school, university, community and professional service
Engage in professional development activities such as scholarship, pedagogical training and curricular development
Support and contribute to the Holy Cross mission of St. Edward's University
Ph.D. in French or Francophone Studies (preferred in hand by June 1, 2014)
Native or near-native fluency in French
Strong commitment to research and teaching
Evidence of excellence in teaching
Evidence of scholarly potential
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills required
Excellent interpersonal skills required
Educational philosophy consistent with a liberal arts emphasis of the lifelong learner and St. Edward's Mission Statement
Experience and training in teaching American students
Interest in study abroad
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
