Communications Manager

 

Overview

The award-winning St. Edward's University Marketing Office is an in-house agency providing integrated marketing services including strategy development, print and digital programs, media and public relations, social media, event planning and market research. We communicate the St. Edward's story to increase engagement, attract resources, and achieve the university's goals.

 

The University's Marketing Office is looking for a public relations professional with a proven track record for increasing positive external awareness through integrated content creation and distribution strategies, specifically media relations, social media and web content. This position reports to the Director of Communications and supervises the Social Media Coordinator.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator to develop and execute social media and content optimization strategies
  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national media to promote awareness of university programs, faculty expertise and timely news dissemination
  • Lead efforts to strengthen and expand the university's faculty expert resource team for external media
  • Provide consultation on writing and development of faculty Op-eds, thought leadership essays and faculty profiles
  • Transform technical and academic content into compelling stories that will have journalists looking to St. Edward's as their expert resource for stories
  • Assist with distribution of information and media response for crisis and issues management
  • Contribute to integrated marketing content efforts through development of news center features or other web content as appropriate

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years' experience in public relations with an emphasis on media relations and social media strategies
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of experience in leading media relations programs and assisting with crisis and issues management
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and presentational.
  • Submission of work samples required. Please include links to media coverage and spokesperson quotes, social media projects, or web content
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and within a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Collaborate effectively with marketing office team, partner offices, and a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Must maintain high level of confidentiality
