Assistant Director of Campus Recreation  

 

Overview

The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation will assist in the development and management of a comprehensive and well-organized campus recreation program.  This program includes club sports, intramurals, personal training, group fitness classes, outdoor adventures, informal recreation, and aquatic opportunities that allow students to participate in a wide variety of physical activities at various skill levels within the University.  The position reports to the Director of Campus Recreation.

 

Responsibilities.  

  • Provide supervision and oversee the day to day operations of two or more key programs within Campus Recreation (Fitness, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, or Informal Recreation)
    • Fitness experience strongly preferred
  • Assess program learning outcomes and their impact on retention, student leadership development, and student satisfaction
  • Assist in the development and supervision of policy and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of all participants
  • Complete annual assessment and provide annual reports to ensure adherence to Student Learning Outcomes
  • Contribute to the development, marketing, and facilitation of growth in recreational offerings to the campus community
  • Assist in development of budgets for Fitness, Intramurals, Club Sports, Aquatics, or Informal Recreation
  • Maintain a strong commitment to student development and engagement
  • Provide oversight of daily business transactions for department

Other

  • Recruit, train and supervise student staff of up to 60
  • Work actively toward accomplishing the University long range plan and serve on campus-wide committees
  • Provide assistance in planning and administering key university programs and events
  • Other related duties

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree strongly preferred
  • NIRSA membership preferred
  • Two or more years of professional experience managing university recreation program (Fitness, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Aquatics, Informal Recreation or Outdoor Recreation).  Graduate Assistant experience accepted.
  • Proven ability to manage, lead, and communicate with a diverse work group with a strong commitment to the academic achievement and personal growth of each student
  • Possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the integration of co-curricular experiences in the overall educational programs of the university
  • Working knowledge of computer applications relative to management of campus recreation
  • Preferred certifications relative to program area: Lifeguard and/or Water Safety Instructor (Red Cross or equivalent), Certified Pool Operator, Nationally recognized personal training and group fitness instruction certification (AFAA, NCSM, NASM preferred), CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor
  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.

 

Salary / Special Conditions
