Biological Sciences Specialist



St. Edward's University Department of Biological Sciences, invites applications for a half-time, 9 month Biological Sciences Specialist.  This position will support members of the Department of Biological Sciences by ensuring that laboratories and other facilities used by the faculty, staff, and students in the department are well-equipped, well-supplied, and well-managed. This position will report to the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.



  • Order departmental consumables and equipment
  • Management of departmental equipment maintenance schedule and repairs; assists in training for proper use of equipment
  • Maintains stockroom, equipment, and chemical inventory for the department.
  • Coordinates waste disposal with the university's facilities department and third party companies
  • Collaborate with the Biological Sciences Laboratory Coordinator to ensure the efficient operation of the department's research and academic functions
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • 20 hours per week, 9 months (generally mid-August to mid-May); flexible schedule in consultation with the Department Chair.



  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences required, MS preferred.
  • Demonstrated potential for management and maintenance of teaching and research lab facilities and supplies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated independence, reliability, and initiative.
