Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of Video Game Development

School of Humanities

The Department of Visual Studies at St. Edward's University invites applications for a one-year renewable, non-tenure-track full-time instructor to teach in its Bachelor of Arts in Video Game Development (VGAM) Program to begin fall 2018. The successful candidate will assist the VGAM Director, will teach courses in the VGAM major, will advise VGAM students, and participate in program and departmental service. The Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor will also contribute to and support diversity at St. Edward's University.


  • Teach eight undergraduate courses per academic year (e.g., four in Fall; four in Spring) in the VGAM major.
  • Actively engage in advising, program expansion activities, departmental, school, university, community and professional service.
  • Participate in program departmental, school-level service.
  • Perform other required faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Manual.


  • An MFA degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area, or a master's degree in an appropriate area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner in a fast-paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Significant experience in gameplay design, game asset creation, or game sound design. Proficiency with all or any of the following software tools: PhotoShop, Illustrator,
  • GameMaker: Studio, Unity 3D, Unreal Engine 4, Audacity, Adobe Animator, Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender. Demonstrated proficiency, at the university level, at lecturing and conducting studio demonstrations in methods and tools, as well as in developing and updating digital teaching materials.


  • Significant experience (e.g., 6+ years) in the video game industry or a proximately related field.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages, including, but not limited to, JavaScript, Python, GML, or C#.
