 Restricted Funds Accountant I

Business Office


Under general supervision, performs standard accounting functions such as ledger maintenance, journal entry posting, complex analyses and reconciliations to include, but not limited to: grants, endowments, loan funds, financial aid and other general ledger accounts. Ensure that accounting activities are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures and generally accepted accounting principles. Analyzes financial and operating data and prepares management reports and financial statements, as required.


  • Prepares and maintains bank and clearing account reconciliations
  • Reviews, analyzes, and reconciles balance sheet and income statement accounts and posts journal entries
  • Prepares endowment and restricted fund accounting ensuring proper classification and utilization of contributed funds
  • Provides accounting support to the Office of Sponsored Programs
  • Initiates invoices and monitors billing for awards
  • Monitors grant budgets and expenditures
  • Prepares fringe benefit and indirect cost allocations to awards
  • Aids in the preparation for and implementation of ongoing strategic initiatives
  • Assists with preparation of consolidated financial reports and preparation for and execution of the financial statement audit
  • Maintains records and performs filing duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • At least one year of experience in accounting role
  • Skill in developing and using complex spreadsheets
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend appropriate accounting entries for transactions; apply appropriate accounting concepts and theories; analyze financial data, research accounting issues and recommend solutions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Comply with internal and external deadlines
  • Communicate issues clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Non-profit and fund accounting, FASB, GAAP, government grants, federal financial aid, external audits and single audit experience.
  • Successful candidate must complete an employment and/or criminal history background check.

Special Conditions

This position limits vacations during summer months due to fiscal year end activities.
